Mid-Autumn Festival has a way of slowing everyone down. Families gather round a table, lanterns come out, and there is always a box of mooncakes waiting to be sliced and shared. At 黑珍珠 The Black Pearl, this season is about bringing that same warmth to the table through thoughtfully paired mooncakes and tea, rooted in Cantonese cuisine and made for savouring slowly rather than rushing through.
Good mooncakes deserve good tea, and the pairing can change the entire experience. A rich filling softens against the right brew, while a delicate one gets a lift from something more fragrant. It is this balance that shapes the selection this year, alongside our 天境之珠 The Celestial Pearl collection, designed with both flavour and tradition in mind.
This year’s collection comes in two boxes, each a set of 4 for $108.
珍珠圆月 Pearl Harmony Box
A contemporary journey through tradition, the Pearl Harmony Box brings together an assortment of four distinct flavours in one elegant case — thoughtful for gifting, and made for sharing.
金圆满月 Golden Custard Box
For those who know exactly what they want, the Golden Custard Box is a refined homage to a classic favourite — four mooncakes, all dedicated to our signature Baked Custard Filling with Egg Yolk 焗香奶皇咸蛋黄月饼, meticulously refined for a modern indulgence. It is best paired with Da Hong Pao, for guests who prefer to stay with one flavour throughout.
Our Mooncake and Tea Pairings This Season
- Aged Pu’er tea with Low Sugar White Lotus Seed Paste with Double Yolk 双黄低糖白莲蓉月饼, where the earthy depth of aged Pu’er cuts through the richness of the lotus paste, while its gentle warmth complements the double yolk without overwhelming it.
- Tie Guan Yin with Purple Sweet Potato with Milk Lotus 紫薯奶香莲蓉月饼, where the floral, slightly roasted notes of Tie Guan Yin bring out the natural sweetness of purple sweet potato, making for a rounded, comforting pairing.
- Silver Needle White Tea with Longjing with Pumpkin Seeds 龙井茶香南瓜子月饼, a light and clean pairing that lets the nutty crunch of pumpkin seeds and the subtle tea-leaf filling shine without either one overpowering the other.
- Da Hong Pao with Baked Custard Filling with Egg Yolk 焗香奶皇咸蛋黄月饼, where the roasted, mineral character of Da Hong Pao stands up well to the buttery richness of baked custard, giving the pairing a nice contrast of textures and flavours.
None of these pairings are set in stone. Some guests prefer a stronger tea to balance a sweeter mooncake, while others like to keep things light throughout. Part of the fun of Mid-Autumn is trying a few combinations and finding what feels right for your own table.
